Socio-Economic Benefits and Sustainability
The Burgangchhu hydropower project is currently under construction, with commissioning expected by 2026. As with all DGPC projects, the development incorporates environmental safeguards and community engagement measures from the construction phase onward. Upon commissioning, the project is expected to deliver socio-economic benefits to the communities of Nangkhor gewog and the wider Zhemgang district through improved infrastructure, local employment opportunities, and DGPC's established community development programmes. Environmental and social impact assessments have been conducted as part of the project's development process, and ongoing monitoring will continue through the construction and operational phases.
