Socio-Economic Benefits and Sustainability

Yungichhu hydropower project is currently under construction, with commissioning expected by 2026. Located in one of Bhutan's eastern districts, the project is anticipated to strengthen energy supply reliability for the region while supporting local economic development. In keeping with DGPC's approach across its operational portfolio, the Yungichhu project will incorporate community development programmes, environmental stewardship initiatives, and infrastructure support for communities in Maedtsho Gewog and the surrounding areas of Mongar district. Environmental and social impact assessments have been completed, and monitoring is ongoing throughout the construction phase.
