DGET - Druk Green Energy Trading

Trading Clean Energy Across Borders

Druk Green Energy Trading (DGET) is a profit centre of DGPC’s that is responsible for the commercialisation and trading of energy from DGPC’s power plants, including export and import of electricity to and from India and compliance with grid discipline requirements. Its mandate is to maximise revenue, ensure regulatory compliance, enhance Bhutan’s energy security, and position DGPC to effectively participate in the evolving regional energy market.

With rising solar capacity in Bhutan, DGET is expected to assume additional functions in forecasting and scheduling generation from solar power plants, thereby improving grid reliability and supporting higher renewable penetration. It could also play an important role in future carbon credit transactions by aggregating generation data and supporting development of market-ready carbon products.

DGET also administers settlements under the Deviation Settlement Mechanism (DSM) and the Grid Discipline Mechanism (GDM), particularly following the introduction of the GDM Regulation by the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) of Bhutan and the signing of modalities for DSM compliance between Bhutan and India. Beyond operational execution, DGET plays a strategic role in monitoring changes in rules, regulations, and market design relevant to electricity trade in India and the wider region.

With expansion to deal with the growing domestic and export/import market and the expertise gained, DGET’s role is seen to grow beyond being just a facilitator to one of a commercial trader.
